The Dutch Gambling Authority said it will start two new campaigns in early November aimed at discussing gambling harms and raising awareness of Gokstop.
The Dutch Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit, Ksa) said it will launch two new campaigns in early November to make gambling and gambling-related harm easier to discuss and to bring wider attention to Gokstop.
According to the Ksa, one campaign is OpenOverGokken, which encourages parents to talk to their children about gambling at an early stage. The regulator said young people can encounter gambling in different ways, including via social media, online videos, adverts and games, while parents may not always know what their child is seeing or how to start a conversation about gambling.
The Ksa said the OpenOverGokken campaign targets parents of young people and young adults aged 16 to 25. The campaign features young people speaking about how their parents talk to them about subjects such as sex and safety, and asks how this compares with gambling. The Ksa said the call to action is “Praat ook op tijd met je kind over gokken” and is intended to prompt parents to raise the topic even when there is no direct reason for concern.
The regulator said the campaign builds on the launch of OpenOverGokken.nl in 2025. It described the site as an independent information platform providing reliable information about (online) gambling and practical tools to help people start a conversation.
The Ksa also announced a new Gokstop campaign, aimed mainly at young adults experiencing problems with gambling or who have an increased risk of gambling harm. It said the campaign also addresses relatives, because they can play an important role in helping someone take a first step.
The campaign slogan is “Elk moment is een Gokstop-moment”. The Ksa said it is designed to show people do not need to wait for a special or drastic moment to decide to stop gambling, with the focus now on the moment of deciding to take a Gokstop.
What it means for players
According to the Ksa, the campaigns are intended to encourage earlier conversations about gambling and to help people who are already experiencing problems take a first step towards a Gokstop.
