888, Bet365 and Paddy Power have a great night
The 2013 Gaming Review Operator Awards took place on November 25th in London, marking the ninth edition of the prestigious event which awards the best operators out of 700+ options based on their performances in the online gaming industry throughout the year. It is like the Oscars of the iGaming industry and has become very popular around the world.
One of the most difficult categories is online poker since the competition is very tough, especially with PokerStars having a huge traffic advantage over the rest of the industry. However, PokerStars was not the one to win the award this year as 888.com was crowned as the “Poker Operator of the Year”. 888 also took home the “Casino Operator of the Year” award which it won two times before, and the highly prestigious “Operator of the Year” award.
It is the first time that 888 manages to take all three of these awards at the same time and reflects the huge marketing campaign which the company launched this year. The poker traffic also shows how much the poker room grew recently, now being in third place, after PokerStars and the iPoker Network, and ahead of Full Tilt Poker by an average of 100 cash game players.
Bet365 leads in sports
Bet365 has expanded to include online casino games and online poker but its main strength remains in the global online sports betting options it offers. The operator won two awards this year, “Sports betting operator of the year” and “In-play sports operator of the year”, and was also mentioned as being highly commended in the “Mobile sports product” category.
Paddy Power gets three awards
While Bet365 might have the lead when it comes to online sports betting and in-play options, Paddy Power’s recent growth and marketing strategies did not go unnoticed. The operator walked away with three awards from the ceremony for “Financial betting product”, “Social marketing campaign” and “Slots operator of the year”.
Paddy Power is by far the biggest European mobile operator, with 43% of its online revenue coming from the mobile sector in the first half of 2013. The operator is also known for its amusing ads and for having a very big presence on social networks. Being awarded the best Slots operator title gives it a nice advantage over the other sports betting companies which expanded to online casino gaming. Paddy Power also received a mention in the “Casino operator” category but didn’t manage to win the award from 888casino.com.
Casumo is the rising star
There were plenty of other categories and operators at the event and one which stood out was the “Rising star” award which went to Casumo. The category aims to help new operators that show a lot of potential by giving them the exposure they need to get started and Casumo seems to fit those criteria quite nicely. It remains to be seen how much the new online casino operator will rise and if it will be able to keep up with the already big companies in the market in the years to come.
